Beach fringed fishing village where a new (2002) Greg Norman-designed Doonbeg Golf Links blends in with the dunes system lining the Atlantic coast. Superb golf and excellent game angling. McMahon castles from the 15th and 16th century were mute witnesses to the grounding of a Spanish Armada vessel at the rivermouth in 1588.
